The UTH burned by Python!!

Jerseyguy Sep 06, 2004 03:52 PM

Yep, my Blood Python got a very nasty burn as a result of the UTH used in his enclosure. Even though he was on newspaper (actually brown paper bag) the heat was obviously intense enough to burn his entire abdomen. It blistered, bled, not nice....So I can honestly say that I will look for other ways to offer supplemental heating to my herps.

how was the UTH controlled? what was the temperature reading on the UTH? was there a malfunction on the system used to keep the temperatures within range?

You mentioned nothing about a reostat or a thermostat. If it is plugged straight into the wall you violated the manufacture's instructions. Also, a UTH is called an UNDER tank heater because it is supposed to be used under the cage and not in it.
