Lygodactylus luteopicturatus INFORMATION needed! =)

OceanBlue Sep 06, 2004 04:03 PM

Does anyone have this Dwarf Yellow Headed Geckos? If you do, please let me know any information and experiences about your geckos. I will get couple of these, and it would be nice to know as much as possible. Of course I have read about the care sheet already, but there are not too much information in the net: I found only few good web sites about the care of Yellow Headed Geckos.

Also I would like to know about the subspecies about Lygodactylus luteopicturatus.
One of the source told that there are two subspecies:
The nominat form L. luteopicturatus luteopicturatus AND L. luteopicturatus zanzibaricus. If someone knows ANYTHING about the latter, please let me know! I didn´t find any information about this, not even a picture.

I hope I will get good tips and experiences about the Yellow headed gecko THANK YOU!

All the info I have been able to gather from the Web and talking to other gexers suggests that these geckos can be kept in the same conditions as Phelsuma as far as UV, temps, and humidity.

As for your second question, my understanding is that L. luteopicturatus is now considered an invalid taxon and that it has been shown to be the same as L. picturatus. I will try to hunt down that reference and post it when I have the time.

I started working on an enclosure for these guys a couple of months back but had to put it on hold. Do post some pics of your setup if you can, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Good luck,
Chris

Thank you Chris for answering!

Unfortunately terrarium is ready not yet.
I will get my geckos next month, they are first
that kind of geckos in here, Finland, as far as I know.

This month I will get own digi-camera, so when the
terrarium will be ready I will sent photos!

I found the reference to L. picturatus/luteopicturatus that I mentioned. It is in the German journal Sauria, so I hope you can read German.

Roll, B. 2004. Lygodactylus luteopicturatus Pasteur, 1965 (1964): ein
Synonym von Lygodactylus picturatus (Peters, 1870) (Sauria: Gekkonidae).
Sauria, 2004, 26 (1): 31-35

I hope this is helpful.
