Question about humidity boxes for snakes...

caliherper Sep 06, 2004 04:57 PM

I've heard that it's a good idea to have a humidity box for snakes. Do you make your own or buy them? Do you only put it in the cage when you know they are getting ready to shed, or do you keep it in there at all times? Thanks!

You make a humidity box out of something like a rubbermaid bowl. Cut an access hole in the lid or on the side and fill with damp spaghum moss (some people have had success using just a damp paper towel.

You can leave it in all the time or just when in shed. Making sure to check when it needs to be rewet. You don't want your snake laying on damp substrate too much - leading to belly rot, etc.

However, looking at the snakes you have (based on your signature), you shouldn't need one - unless your snakes are having problems giving complete sheds.

Thanks
I just wanted my snakes to have more "options"
I probably don't need one. To be honest, all but the w/c king are new additions to our family, and they have not shed yet. The scarlet king I had, did have shed problems, I would have to put her in a separate container with moist wash cloths. Hopefully my new snakes won't need help with shedding.

Thanks again!

just my experience...i don't use humid boxes. when my snakes are going into shedding i will mist down their tanks and sometimes the snakes themselves and they always have complete sheds. always.
