Orange Slices for Crickets?

jayhawk Sep 06, 2004 05:40 PM

Hi.

I was just wondering if it is okay to provide crickets with orange slices as their water source. I am a bit concerned about the acidity of the orange, so I thought I'd see if it was okay. Does anyone here use orange slices for their feeder crickets?

Thanks.

just make sure you don't let it get moldy, and yes you can use it. it works as the water/vitamin c source

Thanks, AF.

One more question: How long can I leave the slices in the tank?

If you have a lot of crickets they will consume the orange before it has a chance to spoil.
With smaller numbers I can usually leave it in for three days or so.

even as I write I have orange slices in with the crickets. I also use orange slices in with the frogs that are fed fruit flies as this keeps the flies on the bottom of the tank with the frogs.

Thanks, Ed.

By the way, the toads still haven't passed a fecal. It's been something like 6 or 7 weeks now. The only thing I ever find in the tank, are very tiny specks in their water every now & then. Besides this ongoing problem, the toads seem very normal. They are alert, and they are both eating well.

Thanks again.

Very odd. There has to be fecals being passed somewhere...
