Soak the gecko, give it a bath so to speak for about 15 mins in warm water and since its only its fingers then water doesn't have to be past its hands.
I use a rubber maid container and put wet paper towel then fill up the water
Good luck
Soak it as described by Snarks, and when the skin becomes soft and loose, you can use you fingers to gently rub and 'massage' its hand, see if you can get it off if he is not doing it himself.
it's actually really important to get it off right away, as i've had geckoes of mine lose toe tips from skin retained for only 2 sheds. it constricts the skin, and can cut down to the bone. it also means that the tank isn't humid enough. meaning, either that their humid hide is allowed to get too dry, or they aren't using it properly. (don't be embarassed, happens to everyone.) in my experience, my males have been the most difficult with regards to not properly taking off their toe-skin. i take extra care to make sure their humid hide stays moist all the time, and (with the worst little guy), i even put a piece of glass over part of the screen, on the top, so that more moisture would be retained in the tank itself (at the recommendation of my herp vet). taking the skin off can be difficult, if it's been many sheds (i have received geckoes with this problem). the gecko may struggle & attempt to bite, because the skin is cutting in so deeply. don't give up, just keep soaking, mist their tank when they're not getting soaks. one trick i've used, with my boy (rasputin), who struggles violently, is to grasp him firmly with a paper towel, just so i feel more secure about not being bitten.
