question about "pink skin" snappers

davidd Jun 25, 2003 06:04 PM

I saw some pink skin alligator snapper hatchlings for sale at turtlesellers.com, was wondering if anybody knew something about it? Is it a genetic thing or just normal variation? I'd like to see some pictures or hear an explantion of it. Does the coloration retain throughout adulthood? I'm so curious

Thanks for ANY info u can give,

David

Hi David, I bought one a couple years ago and he's about 5" now. I think about 5% hatch out this color.I don't know what they look like as adults. The one in the pic isn't as red as in the pic but is pink.

Wow, that's nice. Is there anything different about the pinks diet to keep them that color or just normal? Thanks for the great pic!

David

They will pretty much stay that color with a normal diet but I've noticed a brighter color if fed a turtle food with krill in it. Steve
