South Carolina Redbelly Watersnake

PiersonH Sep 06, 2004 09:07 PM

Here is a nice male Nerodia erythrogaster erythrogaster I caught near Rock Hill, SC this weekend. Nerodia totals were 9 Redbellies, 2 Brown Watersnakes, and 1 Midland Watersnake.

Beautiful snake dude! Thanks for showing the pics here too. I am sure some people would have missed them otherwise.

I love it when you post pics. You sure are good with the camera. By the way what kind of camera do you have? I sure wish I could get a hold of some redbellies. Those are real nice looking snakes. These midlands are every where here. I wish yellow bellies were as common.

I have a Sony MVC-CD400. It does ok but has some flaws. The macro leaves a lot to be desired and the manual focus is junk. It does well in the field though and I love that it records on 8 cm CD-RWs.

Do you want some Redbellies? I've got several CB 03 available.

Erythrogaster tend to hang out in shallow wetlands as opposed to creek and river banks, although I have found them along rivers. I'd search more swampy areas if you want to find Yellowbellies.
