Urgent! Injured Turtle, need advice

KBuehler Jun 25, 2003 06:13 PM

My Mississippi mud turtle that I've had for 15 years got out of his aquarium and my dog chewed him up. As far as I can tell there are no injuries to his legs or head, but there is a big chunk out of the forward margin of his carapace left of his head and a deep crack in the center rear of the carapace. Who knows about internal injuries. My herp vet is not available until tomorrow morning. I would appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

I think i would put him in a box or a empty aquarium and put some towels in it without water. I hope hes ok.

if there are areas that are bleeding put neosporin on the area and keep it clean. Might even want to go to the old paper towel and water bowl husbandry method to aid in this. When you do take it to the vet which should be when you get a chance, preferably soon, they will most likely put a epoxy patch on the cracked areas if they are bad.

Just make sure your turtle is ok, then make sure he can't get out of his aquarium again.
