reptile saturation

I've just spent the weekend at a wildlife expo and reptile keepers' conference, organised by a good mate. A lot of nice animals to be seen and lots of drinking with other herpers from around the country. Had a herper friend from interstate staying with me for the weekend, so we also visited the private collection of one of his contacts - the nicest perentie exhibit I have seen, with four nice animals looking to be 2:2.

This is one of them (covered in sand).

He also had a few lacies, including a breeding pair of bells form. Not my thing, but nice animals nonetheless. Here's one of his females.

Below are a couple of animals from the expo. This is the biggest male spenceri I have seen, but everyone assured me the owner has a bigger male at home.

Not a monitor, but a neat little dude.

I'm waiting for one of the Alice Springs contingent to send me the photo he took of me with his little male perentie. It was asleep on my chest. Beautifully coloured animal. Now I'm hooked on them as well.

Note to self: save up for large house with room enough for lacies AND perenties.

are perenties legal to keep where you're at? I know certain species are illegal in certain areas, correct? I vaguely remember you or somebody else from your area stating that glauerti are illegal to keep...not sure if that's true or not...

Perenties are gorgeous... I'd imagine they'd need a ton of space.. Just buy out the flat nextdoor to you, and dedicate that to your monitors..heck, where you're at, that shouldn't cost too much....hahahahaha... Take care, can't wait to see some more pics... I'd like to see the one of you and the perentie... Cheers dave,

yes perenties are legal here.

Glauerti will likely be, too, if they aren't already. There are now a few in captivity in other states and once a healthy captive bred population exists they'll probably be added to the list of allowable species in NSW.

Hi DK,

Looks like you had blast this weekend! Very nice animals... I would be interested to learn more of the bells phase breedings and any behaviors associated with them, perhaps particular to them, if any?

Thanx for sharing DK, Great pics,
mbayless

Bells phase lacies are just a colour phase, so their behaviours are just like any other lace monitor.

Those are great animals. It must be a lot of fun to be around them in their natural state on a regular basis.

All the best,

Andrew
