co-dom or dom tiger balls (reduced pattern)

gone_balls_crazy Sep 06, 2004 10:48 PM

I was wondering if anyone has any information on these. I had seen a post about them a few months back and really what to get involved in them! Thanks for any help.

The father is very interesting; However, The babies don't really look like him and other then having minimal "alien eyes," are pretty much normal as far as ball python variants go.
Let me know what I'm missing?
Good luck with them.

I agree, they do not look normal, they look exactly like a reduced pattern (tiger ball) that I have and like the ones RDR has.

I think those lok pretty nice and set apart from the average norm. It is starting to look like if someone big didn't produce it or it is not your clutch then it looks normal to people. Just because it isn't pied or albino does not mean it is normal. These anacondas have no distinct things that set them off besides the fact that no other yellow anacondas look like them and they dont have any circles like anacondas do. I dont want to cause a huge thread of debate either but if you dont like something or it looks normal to you then don't buy it. I think those ball pythons should have little trouble selling.

chainsaw Sep 07, 2004 04:51 PM

Thanks Eunectes4! I think you have a point there!LOL!!I remember years ago, people saying Kevin at NERD was crazy for buying up all the weird ball pythons!
Anyway, your "normal" yellow's look incredible!!Were they born that bright,or is the pic after first shed?!

eunectes4 Sep 07, 2004 08:32 PM

That is after about 9 months...Mark Petros produced them last fall as the first clutch of granite anacondas. So that is after quite a few sheds I would think. As far as color, I have seen some nice ranges in color in the yellows and they rank up there with the bright yellows but the pattern is out of this world in my mind for anacondas (I think I did a pretty good job with a camera phone there but Mark thinks all my photos do the animals no justice and look drab lol). Maybe it looks normal to some people but for people like me who spend all day looking at anacondas and ball pythons...they look like nothing I have ever seen and plenty of anaconda people out there like them. Seriously, maybe it is more harsh with ball python people because lots of folks are trying to pass off things as different that truely arent but the animals there (tigers or whatever they are) are not the case, they look good as well as different from the rest. Good luck

Thanks again. Yeah I could see if I was trying to sell these as the newest thing for 40k a piece someone might get upset, but I wasn't posting them for sale, just sharing pics of reduced pattern balls that I had produced myself. After 2 years breeding this male and having every baby in 5 clutches be reduced pattern to varying degrees I think that there's got to be something going on there genetically. BUt I'm no expert, so take it as you will. lol! Those granite anacondas are definatly cool!!

gone_balls_crazy Sep 07, 2004 10:09 AM

Those look great! Not normal! Did you get those by breeding dad to a normal female? I really like them. Have you sold any of the babies?

chainsaw Sep 07, 2004 11:35 AM

Thanks!! Yes,all the babies are from the adult male to normal females! And no,so far I haven't sold any...wouldn't even know what to ask for them?!

Second generation bandeds........Mine are recessive.

Enjoy,

eunectes4 Sep 07, 2004 04:24 PM

Nice ones...it would go nice with a few morphs out there.

idealreptiles Sep 07, 2004 04:54 PM

As I said above, those look normal as far as ball python variants go (except for the little/no alien eyes), but they look nice and good luck with them.
I also said I was not trying to be rude.
I would like to see some recent pics as babies look a lot different just out of the egg and before they dry off and shed.
I am sure they look much better in person.
If you import 30 ball pythons, they will all be unique in their own way and some will be more common then others, and some will be more desirable then others.
I have a large collection of ball pythons and work with other collections regularly which ads up to about 300 normal ball pythons a week that I interact with (and some really sweet ones.
Those snakes look interesting but nothing out of the ordinary to me compared to my collection and many ball pythons I have seen.
So many people here want to jump the gun but instead read a little deeper.
What it comes down to is this:
You can buy hets and poss hets that look like those and better for pretty cheap...........is anyone going to pay much for one if it is just a normal?
Some will, some wont.
It all comes down to personal preference.
What is abnormal?
To me, it's pied, albino excedera.
I don't care who produced it and don't need glasses to see something different.
Line them up with others and I am sure we all could point out some cool characteristics, as ball pythons are ALL awesome.
Croos them with a pastel and I would be pretty cool.

Again, good luck with them, but try to save some females for other progects.
Evan

Hey,nice normals!LOL!! Corey,those are gorgeous!!
If you want,E-mail me...Id like to talk more about both our projects!

joshm Sep 07, 2004 07:38 PM

Hi there. My strain is dominant from what I can tell, producing all banded animals when bred to typical females. I have produced f4's at this point, and some are almost patternless up the sides. They just seem to get better and better. This is an f3 from last season. Hope this helps!

chainsaw Sep 08, 2004 12:11 AM

I wish you guys would stop posting all these pictures of "normals" lol! Seriously, very nice. And quite similiar to some that I hatched out myself. If you don't mind me asking, would it be possible to see a pic of your founder animal? Thanks.

joshm Sep 08, 2004 11:23 AM

Sorry for the poor pic, still learning. I got her from VPI in the mid 90's. One of several, from a c.h shipment of several thousand babies. Back then Tracey called them cigar banded, and she said that she thought they might be genetic. Sure enough they were! Thank again Tracey!!

joshm Sep 08, 2004 11:25 AM

Now sold so I can't get a new shot of him! He is very nice though.

joshm Sep 08, 2004 11:28 AM

Again sorry for the poor photo. As you can see, these are getting quite reduced compared to the 03 animals. This little girl is sold, but I have yet to be paid for her. If I don't get paid this week, she might just have to stay!! Let me know your thoughts about them..

chainsaw Sep 08, 2004 04:11 PM

What can I say, beautiful!! I can't believe how alike our 2 lines are, even the body color and patterns!! Your's is recessive, right? Mine seem to be dominant, all the babies in the last 2 years have all been reduced pattern, the only differences being the # of breaks in dorsal pattern and amount of spots on their sides! When I compare them to the normal hatchlings from my Pastel clutches, there's a big difference!
E-mail me,if you'd like to talk more.
