Breeding Question

alexcr1 Sep 07, 2004 01:27 AM

I was wondering how often/is it common practice to breed siblings(brother to sister) and or mother to son or father to daughter? Are there any defects or does it take a few generations to see the effects of same blood/gene pool breeding. Thank you

Alex

Its sad to think "when" the negitives will appear and only a fool will argue different.Safe bet it wont be seen in any of our life times but it will happen. Thousands of years of evolution are fastforwared by greedy humans looking to ride a bandwagon to some gold mine of their dreams.Reasponsable "Linebreeding" is not done within a litter(Male/Female/Sibs or Sibs back to Male/Female)to improve or retain a trait.A large percentage of today`s Linebreeding within litters does nothing to "improve" its done to "duplicate",yep ! duplicate them green rectangles that is. Without investing the effort to trace back into the generations to the previous generation(Grandfather)or better yet the one prior(Great Grandfather)for the sake retaining qualities or removing defects,Reasponsable is the last term I would use for the mutt mills of todays Herp Hobby.
The choice is there for everyone regardless of opinions, you can ride the cash bandwagon or listen to what you believe.

Peer Pressure only affects the weak and insecure !
