Is this unusual behavior for a pit?

Never once has my Sonoran Gopher hissed or struck at me till today. I'd just gotten outta the shower, put on DO, hairspray, perfume and such and then had to go check out my gopher (again). He had his head close to the top so he got a good whiff of me and instantly he started acting like I was his mortal enemy. I've never seen him soooooooo upset, hissing and striking and twisting his body all around rushing from one end of the cage to the other warding me off. I actually felt sorry for him. Do you think that it was the perfumes... esp since he was WC and wasn't brought up around such odors? Or that he was confused because I smelled different? Any suggestions?

possibly you just startled him when you suddenly walked up? that can happen. my bulls have bad days too sometimes and can be somewhat unapproachable while a day later they're fine. when they act like that, i just leave them be......

I took all that into consideration. Thanks. Today he didn't do it even though the circumstance were simular... minus the perfume. Mmmmmm. I'll have to try it again sometime, with the perfume.
