Went into my snake room yesterday morning to find the drawer that houses my one of a kind hypo scarlet king ajar. Not surprisingly the snake was not in its cage but beings that the room is escape proof I just started in on the process of locating the loose animal all the while wondering how it had gotten out. I knew that I had not left the drawer open as scanning them is the last thing I do EVERY time I leave the room.

Anyway half way through my search I locate a 3’ female eastern king! The rest of a very thorough search failed to locate the SK though I suspect that I actually found it the moment I located the eastern! I guess what happened is that the eastern crawled behind the rack and by coincidence pushed the SK’s box, which would have been one of the lighter ones, out enough for it to escape. What followed in a small confined space does not require an advanced degree in Herpetology to figure out!

As to how the eastern escaped, that remains a mystery. It’s vision cage was still tightly closed and the mouse that I had fed it last Friday was gone when I checked to ensure it had eaten Saturday, indicating that it was still caged at that time! I’m really at quite a loss as to how this happened.

The only saving grace to the entire situation is that the SK did breed this spring and I still have 3.4 2004 neonates that should be het for hypo.

and when questioned, the eastern king cocked his head at you and said "i'm just happy to be here",promptly belched, and crawled back to its vision cage, secure in the knowledge that he can get out any time he wants.that would be driving me nuts more than the "missing in action"scarlet,no?
