How big are you Cal Kings?

Tigergenesis Sep 07, 2004 09:45 AM

I've never seen an adult in person, and I'm aware of the quoted average length of the species, but I was just wondering how the quoted lengths compare to what is actually seen by those on this forum - and if there are any/many record breakers.

My big cal king is about 5 feet long, possibly slightly under, judging by the fact that he is considerably longer than his 4 foot long tank when stretched out

and he was right at 48". He has grown quite a bit since then, so I will have to measure him tonight and see just how big he is. Will take and post an updated pic as well.

We have a 3 footer that is thick from head to tail. The largest Ive personally measured was one found in the wild that made 48 inches. It was probably half as thick as the one in our collection (she was also wild caught and thick already). There seems to be some variance in girth, and Ive heard they dont reach 5 feet easily.
