Need help finding ants

jat3636 Sep 07, 2004 04:13 PM

I have done the dumb and taken what I'm pretty sure is a Phrynosoma Platyrhinos from the nevada desert. Being uneducated at the time of their needs and the opinions of everyone I have since sopken too or read about. I still have this little fella, and am not able to return him to his natural home 5 states away. I have a 10 gallon tank several inches of sand and some of his own native sand as well as rocks and a plant also a uv light and a heat lamp which I turn off at night as the desert actually gets quite chilly and I'd like to keep it as much like home as possible. However, my main concern at this point is that I have not secured his diet of ants. I don't know what kind of ants I should arder or where I can get them. So far it is just crickets dusted in a lizard diet powder. I am still searching for ants on the web. Any suggestions are appreciated, as I am mostly clueless, and have never kept any lizard before.

A DHL (desert horned lizard) should not be too difficult if you get him a regular supply of ants, hopefully some sunshine on occasion and get him into a bigger tank. A ten gallon will surely stress him and make both your lives miserable.

You should be able to get some ants here: Ants Alive

If they can't set you up drop me an email and I'll get you some.
Check out Phrynosoma.com for some general care info.
Read and ask a lot of questions and you should be ok.
Good luck to you!
