Sanzinia color change?

Visahari Sep 07, 2004 05:11 PM

I have seen some wonderful pictures of juvi manderin sanzinia on here, i was wondering if it should be expected for them to loose that color? Also i have yet to see juvi pics of the green phase sanzinia, and i am curious as to what color change if any they go under. If any one has some pictures illustrating such that would be awesome.

THanks a bunch,

Matt

from what I have seen as yearlings they will gow through a color change. The yellows will turn more of a orange/lemony color and the reds will turn to a brownish color. Allthough adults are much darker then the brightly colored babies the yellow appears to hanbg around in most cases... i'm hoping that my little one retains all of her yellow in to adulthood... if so I think she will look very much the same as she does now... just a little darker. Cross your fingers!

I'm in a total rush to post a good answer as I'm outta here for a bit...

Adult Sanzinia are not as beautifully colored as babies. Neither Greens nor Mandarins. However the colors of the adults vary significanly from "blah" to "wow". I have a couple adults that I think are rather drab colored, but the female has the most awesome head and the male has a gorgeous lemon yellow belly. I have another female that's nicer looking and one male who is gorgeous.

Each clutch has it's standouts so I breed all of my adults to keep as many genes in the pool as I can. As the years go by, folks will concentrate on breeding the best of their own litters with selective breeding.

There is a lot of potential and a lot of gorgeous snakes to be made... it's gonna take some generations though.

Baby green phase sanzinia are bright red and slowly change to green.

I'd say more... but I'm out.

Bye,

Doug T
