when you take a male 50% poss pied and breed it to a 50% poss female what type of babys are you going to get.

If they are both hets you get pieds and 66% poss hets
If one is a het you get 50% poss hets
If they are both normal you get normals

You might get lucky you might not...I think the odds are like 1 to 250 that both are hets...

The best way to prove poss hets is to take a 50% female and breed it to a 100% male....

The best way to prove a 50% poss het male is to breed it to normals and line breed the female offspring back to dad....

good luck

The odds of both 50% hets being het are 25% (1 in 4). If you upgrade the male to a 100% het (as low as $350 now) you double your odds of having a het pair to 50% (1 in 2).

As pointed out you would still need to hit the 25% odds for each egg to produce a pied even if it turns out that both of the parents are hets. The more eggs the better chance of this happening – as long as both of your possible hets turn out to be hets.

...if your luck is bad, het x het may still produce all normal looking, especially if the clutch is small, and you're back to square one.

...The BEST way to prove out possible hets is to breed to visual Pied specimens. If you don't have the resources to acquire your own visual pieds, then breeding loans can be arranged. I may be receiving a possible het female (if she's big enough) later this fall to breed to my visual male in this type of loan.

Good luck with your!
