vozrider Sep 07, 2004 09:29 PM

Please let me know if anyone has a Croc monitor or knows where I can find a good croc monitor at a reasonable price.

Thanks,
G

if you are really interested in a Croc. then don't go for the "good deal". go for one that you know will be in great shape, and wasn't caught in the wild last week-end. they are too fast and powerful to just race in and buy one at a good price. now that i have some, i see how strong and big their teeth/jaws are. i would go for quality even if it ment spending an extra G. normally CB are $1200 and up. atleast that is what i've seen them for. and if someone has a "CB" Croc for $400 their lying.

For a monitor the size of a croc, I estimate you will need to spend several thousand dollars for the enclosure alone, not to mention electricity and feeding bills. If you are already putting out this kind of money, why not spend the extra $$$ to make sure you get a top quality animal, rather than a piece of junk that will die in a few months?

Best of luck,

Luke

I have spent the last 2 years building the perfect (in my opinion) enclosure for this croc monitor. I have also spent that time getting to know everything I can about them. I didn't want to be cheap. I just wanted to find a nice specimen for a decent price & not get totally raped y'know? I have dealt with a few unscrupulous dealers in this biz, as I'm sure we all have!

Thanks,
G

We recently added on to our house, 2 bedrooms & a bath. 1 of the bedrooms is dedicated to 2 projects. 1 to house the 5-1/2' V. Salvator that we have & & the other half is dedicated to our future croc monitor. The Croc enclosure is 12'X8x8'& fully decked out with branches & both sides have a self draining/ filling pool in the floor. My wife doesn't really dig it but I paid for it & worked really hard on it so I win- haha!

I hope he appreciates it. I kow how evil they can be. But I am going to do everything iI can to make him happy & healthy. Even if he ends up being a "look at only" pet (which I hope is not the case, but ya never know), I will be happy just being able to watch him grow & feed & just know I will have the king of all monitor lizrds (in my opinion). I have been looking forward to this for a long time!

If your not getting a croc monitor as a look at rather then cuddle with pet. Then i would look into another type of monitor.

You really cannot let the guard down with them even as youngsters. I have had many and you can work with them but they are not something you can just make tame, train, or sit back and watch TV with. You must repsect them at all times and handle them much differently then other monitors. if you think your going to just pick it up if it is not in a good mood and man handle it back into its cage good luck. Basically its like owning a crocodile that climbs trees. LOL

Your cage is not bad but if it grows to 8 foot 4 inches as my male did it will still need more room.

Just some things for you to think about.

Jody, glad to hear you made it through the hurricane.
Since you are posting again, I take it all the animals are ok your power is back on.

Can't get rid of me that easily LOL

All is well and it is so nice to have my power back on. It came on last night. Nothing like sitting in your house with no lights, no a/c and sweating to death. Was a great diet plan though.

I kept the reptiles misted and taken care of to cool them down so all is well with them. I do have some cage repairs to do but nothing to major. I just finished cutting up the tree that fell on my jeep today. I let it get some pay back so hope it feels better now. I hooked up the chains and let the jeep rip the stump out of the ground.

Hopefully things will get back to normal around here soon.

Yeah. I have resigned myself to the fact that it will be a display animal only. Which is cool. I have recently looked into putting 2 cameras in th enclosure so that I can even watch him from my Computer. The room I have built is designe to where I can open the entire room when the time comes & just relocate my salvator. He is calm as can be & pretty much just roams our house like a dog anyway.

thanks for the advice. Very cool!

A lot of people on this board seem to jump down peoples throats very quickly. When someone says that they are looking for a "Good Deal", it doesn't necessarily mean that they want the cheapest one available. The components of a deal would be looking at price vs. quality and choosing the combination. If I have two identical quality animals, but one is 500 dollars cheaper, then what is the point of spending the extra 500 bucks? Just because something is more expensive, does not mean the quality is higher. Just my opinion.

I bought one a year or so ago from Regal Reptiles at a show for 550.00 I don't have him now but he was fine. Very nice looking, flawless, and in great shape. I kept him for over 9 months and he was great. He was not much for heavy petting but neither am I. I say go to a show. F the classifieds. See what you are getting. Also cash seems to get you the best deal in person.

i totally agree, i mean you could buy a w.c. croc for 1200 dollars that doent mean it isnt a w.c.
