baby gopher defensive

janome Sep 08, 2004 06:54 AM

i recently bought a albino sonoran gopher at a reptile show. he is being defensive with the rattling of the tail and hissing. i'm thinking he should grow out of this behavior. i've read baby gophers are normally calm. i have corns, a milk and python and they didn't show this behavior when they were younger.

I know he is just nervous being in a new home an all. Are the adults normally docile and handable? my snakes are just pets so i'm hoping this gopher will be docile as well.

In my experience baby gophers rattle their tails and hiss. This is their normal defensive behavior. They tend to grow out of it with handling. Sonorans seem to be more calm than other gophersnakes. Your albino sonoran should grow out of his defensive behavior and become a nice docile pet.
