Weird behavior for Hogg Island Boa, any advice?

azmiris Sep 08, 2004 02:56 PM

I have a male Hogg Island Boa, about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. He's eating great. Within the past few weeks he has become very aggressive and hostile, hissing loudly and striking at anyone that gets near. This is unusual for him, he has been downright friendly for as long as I've had him. I know some animals get aggressive when they reach sexual maturity, does anyone know if this is what's happening (or maybe something else)? Advice would be appreciated!

Thats the way mine get when they are too hot or their cage is too dry. Otherwise they are calm as can be. Check you temps. and humidity levels.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I keep him in a Vision cage, which can get pretty warm; maybe a fan or a smaller wattage bulb. Time to bust out ye olde humidifier, too. I'll take pictures if he doesn't bite my fingers

Worked like a charm! Wow, what a difference. I cooled him down and increased the humidity, and now he's back to his old friendly snakey self. It only took a few days to notice the change in attitude. Thanks again!

I think that means that he wants to come live with me! ha ha ha ... just kidding. Seriously, I agree with the previous post. Good luck with him. Post some pics when you get a chance.
