HELP!!! GECKO NOT EATING

skikid28 Jun 25, 2003 08:23 PM

Over the past couple of days, my female gecko that is approx. 3 1/2 months old has eaten basically nothing. She has maybe eaten three mealworms over the past weeks. Temps are 89 on hot side, 75 on cool side. I have no idea what is wrong. My dad is a vet and I had him conduct a fecal exam and everything is normal. WHAT DO I DO?

Have you changed or added anything in her environment? How much has she normally eaten up to the point when she stopped eating? how much does she weigh??

well, two weeks ago I added a different water bowl to hold more water because I would be gone for a couple days, I recently moved a small driftwood piece to create another hide, and I don't know how much she ways because I don't have a gram scale but am getting one shortly.

Those small additions/changes to her cage may have stressed her out. nonetheless, be patient with her.. she'll eat fine again shortly. Sometimes the geckos get so stressed they don't eat.. depends on the personality of the gecko i guess

If the leo is a new one, then it is probably stressed from moving. If not make sure the tank is not constantly being annoyed (by humans always staring into it, tapping on it, running past it, loud music playing near it, etc). This stresses geckos out. Reptile tanks should be in a quiet area of the house. Make sure the tank isn't too cluttered (a ten gallon tank is really only big enough for two hides, a water dish, and a supplement dish). Bigger tanks can accomodate more. Make sure the leo has access to some decent hides where it can get away from prying eyes. If everything seems fine, then the leo probably isn't hungry. Remember, reptiles often don't need to eat as often as we think they do!!! Good luck!!!
