Sorry to hear about your male
I plan on getting a few more things to put in the tank to make them feel more at home. I noticed loose sand freaks them out so I plan on putting more thicker stuff so they can get traction, along with some smaller rocks for the leaps they like to do.
Take care!

Hi, I just received my first collared and it is also a desert collared. I was wondering what your lizards' personalities are like and if you think keeping two together is the way to go---in other words is my Issey going to be lonely?

coffee33 Sep 08, 2004 07:05 PM

Mine are all "WC" so captive breed might be different.
I have 3 now, 1 male, 2 females but don't do this cause normally this will cause a big fight and injuries will occur.
I would have 1 m, to 1 f, no more in nothing smaller then a 55 gallon.
I hold mine very little because I want to keep them wild and feeling free as they did before I caught them but my females are pretty tame.
I think there personalities are alot like Oscars...you know the fish, very smart! I can stick my hand in the cage with greens or crickets and one of the females will come slowly lumbering over to eat right out of my hand.
I have been into reptiles since I was 3 Y.O. and this lizard is like no other. I think your going to love them.
Take care and check out this kick butt website I found.
AWESOME COLLARD SITE!

maybe it is just me but i don't think there is a problem with keeping 2 females with a male. i did it for almost a year and the only reason i separated them was because i got a second male as a present and i did not want him to be lonely. i have no scientific fact but i think mine are happier when they are with another lizard but if one is all you can keep then i think he will be ok. remember when you get another lizard you need to quarentine them for several weeks to make sure it does not have any diseases and whatnot so keep in mind you would have to accomodate it
