Pretty much a dumb question-

meretseger Jun 25, 2003 08:23 PM

I was getting into a conversation with a lady at the petstore who had found a smallish toad and bought a very very tiny toad to keep it company. Was I correct in telling her that the very very tiny toad would probably become lunch, assuming they all lived that long? The sales guy said he had no problem keeping small toads with big toads, so I felt compelled to tell him that he was selling the toads in violation of state law ^_^. The people left before I could tell them that toads are poisonous. I wish I didn't have to go in pet stores...

I don't feel you were at all wrong. Not to mention that unless they are the same toad, they can't be put together anyway. The toxins of one can also kill the other and vice versa.

Yikes, I hate going into pet stores for that reason. I only go into one or two local pet stores, and that is just because i need crickets, and living in a very rural area where ups refuses to deliver. I hate seeing species that are mixed carelessly; then you risk alienating the shop owners if you open your mouth. but my boyfriend and me can never keep our mouths shut and usually get glared at by the "expert" employees while we loudly declare the setup's flaws. my only solution is to shop at just one local store which cares for its animals well. i would rather drive 20 miles there than go to a flawed shop that is closer! i really wish there was a "required reading" book that people had to see before purchasing or even catching wild herps if it weren't impossible.
