I've made my decsion. NOW I NEED REAL HELP!

JohnnyToad Sep 08, 2004 05:06 PM

Well first of all I would like to thank everyone who kindly responded to me. I thank you all.
After much debate I have decided to get a few White's tree frogs. We both think they are very cute and look lovable. Besides we both really wanted sopmething a little calmer for our first frogs. Now here come the questions.
* I know what we need as far as a tank. I have seen in local pet shops a 30 gallon tank that is really two 15 gallon tanks on top of each other. How should I set up the floor of it? How much water should I put? I have been told babies can drown in less then half an inch, is this true? What percentage land?
* I know these guys need foliage. Where do I get those branches? (I live in New York City) I know they like to climb so branches are needed.
* I know crickets are good for food. How many and how often should I feed then? How about babies? I mean there is something wrong with the term Fat "Dumpy" Frog.
* Do they need any heat?
* How many should I put in a 40 gallon tank?
* What other things can I do to make them comfy?

Thank You

John

HMM..... good choice wit the frog. I half a false bottom tank wit a cork background. DONT MAKE IT HALF WATER HALF LAND. Treefrogs drown ALOT. For substrate use co co bed-a-beast or eco earth. For water get a bowl and fill it so it is shallow enuff for frog to just soak in. O and if u want u can get a background but it will cost u alot of money kinda to do this.

Dang srry i clicked post before i was done....LOL
and u can buy branches at the petstore and put some like plants such as pothos in. i feed my babies ummmmmmmm 9 crickets every 2 days. Wat u will find out is the frogs dont like the soil on them. get moss to cover ground. Live moss is better so the frog doesnt get impaction. I also use a lamp over the tank for heat.
That is all i can tell u , mayb some more experienced frog lovers can tell u mroe. Hope ur froggies turn out great like mine.

If you're in NYC. you should go to the White Plains reptile expo this weekend...9-12
You'll find lots of ideas there. Lots of frogs, and lots of frog keepers. You'll also save a bunch of money on supplies.

Thanks

I believe there is another show November 21. If you go to http://www.reptileexpo.com/ it will give you a listing of all the shows and venders that will be there.
