hatching

m1k3_88 Sep 08, 2004 05:55 PM

I've got 5 eastern collared eggs that are on day 49 of incubation. They are in a homemade foam cooler incubator and im worried that i will probably be at school when they hatch, how long will they be ok in the incubator after they hatch? and how long after they hatch should i try feeding them? Thanks, Mike

They should be fine in the incubator for several days as long as they can't get out of the container and some how drown in water. They usually don't eat for several days after hatching.
Good luck!

If they hatch while your at school , don't worry at all, some people keep them in the incubator for a day or so anyway.
I will, lets say if they hatch at night I leave them in till morning, and if they hatch during the day, I leave them in a few hours , until I see that they are getting more active.

When I see that they are walking around more, I then move them to a 10 gallon with paper towels, heat light, and uvb.

Make sure they get water everyday with an eye dropper, drip it on their nose , they usually will start to lick it.

As far as eating they do not eat for the first 3 or 4 days and sometimes up to 2 weeks, thats the longest I ever had one go before begining to eat. Most do eat within the first week.

Well let us know when the HAPPY event takes place, we will be waiting !
