Ok this whole Tangerine thing has gotten me confused

Now what constitutes a leo to be considered a tangerine?
I always thought the tangerines that HISS produces (like RED-orange along the body) to be real tangerines, even with spots, some leos are clearly orange and I think i understand that :P

And carrot tail to be FULL not broken up by spots Orange coloring on the tail and "fake" carrot tailing to be well.. not a trait at all really.
OR is it any hint of orange on any part of the gecko considered tangerine?

Thanks for any input

Few spots are fine and alot of my breeders that does not have Nevies line in it usally gets spots on tail... Kelli has best ones at best price you would find. TAngerines are organe did you ever seend furit that are a like to organe? Carrottail are little confusing with out pics and I will has to rewrtie the info I has for everyone to understand the traits in best way!

from what i'm gathering people are considering a gecko a tangerine morph if they have orange on their tail

for example what would this guy be? I've always just thought he has orange on his tail and he's high yellow because he's yellower than my other female or maybe she's just a low grade snow, here's the male

That would be nice Hi Yellow! a High Grade

Those people were misinformed. What you defined them as in your first post was correct. Carrottail has nothing to do with it being a tang or not. There is actually a pretty big problem with people misrepresenting yellow leos as tangs, or leos with orange spots on the tail as carrottails. It is pretty easy to tell the difference once you know what you are looking for....

That the bar gets pushed higher every year. The standard changes almost every season now.

Leos that were considered 'hypo' 3 years ago are now just 'reduced spotting'.
Leos that were considered 'tangerine' at one point are now called 'high yellow'.

Leo morphs are advancing very quickly. In a matter of years we've gone from normals to animals with orange highlights to all out red-orange coloration.

While yes, some people may be labeling leos as what they were called at one point in the past, now the standard is too high to keep refering to them as that. For example, the high yellow/tangerine topic further down. 5 or six years ago, that could have been a nice tangerine representation. But now compare it to the top tangerines of today. Things change too much X3

Its a high yellow, probably also considered reduced spotting. most leos naturally have a little bit of orange on their tails, so that shouldnt be the basis of calling it a tangerine. A tangerine leopard gecko should have orange coloring on the body, not only the tail.

He is a very handsome boy you have there

To be tangerine it must have a higher degree of orange pigmentation throughout the body.

Here's a link that should help with some carrot-tail pics.
