No they are not venomous. If you are a beginner, try a corn snake or a king snake. They are both pretty easy to keep. I prefer kings, but a lot of people like corns for their color morphs. Corns are readily available. You should be able to find either at a local pet shop but I would recommend going to a reptile expo to get your snakes. It is cheaper, there is more selection, and you can ask the breeders questions about care.
Obtain reading material and start reading. Markel and Perlowin are the best known authorities.
Please don't ask others to do your work for you. Read, study and you will learn. These posts are primarilly for specific topics - not "transfer to me all your knowledge in a paragraph" requests, however well intentioned.
Special request: Use structured language, not the strung-together letters without punctuation & correct spelling of your post. It's not hip & cool; it looks sloppy.

Just because Markel wrote a rather poor book about kingsnakes/milksnakes doesn't make him an authority, although I guess I could concur with the observation that they are the best known authorities. The Perlowing book is good, but frankly, there are lots of better books out there. Applegate's little milksnake book is more informative than either of those two. Just my opinion.

Agreed. Too many people are lazy, although I don't assume here that the person doesn't intend to do some reading.

I am normally the first to agree. I hate to see the abuse of the English language that takes place on these online forums and worse, the perceptions that these online shortcuts are acceptible form outside of the online world (I'm a college professor - I see it all the time from my students in papers, etc.).
But in this case, I thought the original post was very well written and punctuated without any spelling errors that I noted. OK, there was a missing period before the thank you and a few caps would have helped, but I found it much more readable than most of the first time posts here!

I don't intend to be mean, just very candid (blunt?). Sometimes I am impatient with the quirks of others, but I mean well.
I tend to be a non-conformist when it comes to live feeding & providing variety of diet. Many persons in these posts disagree with me, others agree.
