Hello,
I have a beautiful pair of Cape Cobras, ( Naja Nivea ). both about 32 inches long. I am familiar with eye spots on asiatic cobras like spectacled or monocaled but the female has a pair under her lower jaw usually they are not in a position where one can see them at all the way cobras commonly stand up or prowl around the enclosure. Wondering if anyone had noticed this interesting but somewhat quirky markings the exact purpose escapes me as she would have to lift her head straight up to make them readily visibly ( she was peeking up from behind palm fronds there ) so what purpose they serve I don't know as nothing would see them, I have NEVER seen any cobra lift their head straight up in threat posturing, and the way they savage their food items lol eye spots are not a attractant. I have forgotten how to post pics in this forum so please make use of the url I left.
