what i did for a hide for my sav and set up

ronjr Sep 08, 2004 11:49 PM

i recently built a 4ftx3ftx3ft cage for my sav.and today i made it a two level cage, the top level has a wooden ramp going into the bottom level the bottom level is completely closed in (darkend) like underground, since i know in the wild they live in borrows i figred that would be pefect He seems to love it and it doubles the cage space, but on the top level he also has hollow cork log hide, the bottom hide level has mulch bedding, the top level is astroturf, i couldnt ask for this cage to have turned out any better ,i looks great and the heating arragments are perfect,on the lower level im using a human heat pad under the cage that keeps the ground warm, and on the top level i have two heat lamps i also have a couple decent sized rocks under the heat lamp that he loves layin and basking on,,sorry about all the ranting i was just happy with how the cage turned out,my sav seems happy and so am i hopefully ill be getting a digi cam soon so i can post pics of my lttleguy and his new castle..

Good idea, I may have to do the same. If I added 2 feet to the bottom, the cage would be 6 feet tall and have plenty of room below the door for deep substrate.

There are water dragons, chameleons, frilled dragons, pythons, and monitors in my jungle room.

Hello.
Its cool to hear you're so excited about the cage. It sounds nice, and interesting for the monitor. Pics would be very cool, people might have some helpful suggestions then.

My comment is that monitors like tight spaces as well as dark and out of sight. They like being squished. Its hard to believe, but yep, squishing is good. Allow for that.
I found my adult male and female monitors crammed into a tiny cardboard packing box once. It was intended to hold four bags of soup. It was astonishing, what they can fit into.

Maybe fill the bottom one with dirt/sand/cypress mix about half way. This will allow some cool burrows.
