Baby allies

gauchobry Sep 09, 2004 12:19 AM

Just wondering if it is normal for Northwestern baby alligator lizards to refuse food after 4 days. I am starting to get a little worried. Any suggestions. I have tried pinheads each day but they mostly just ignore or run away from them. Thanks in advance,

Bryan

Are they hydrated? Sometimes babies won't drink from bowls so try spraying them down. Are you using a good calcium supplement? Diseases like MBD and develop quickly in rapidly growing hatchlings. My baby northerns are voracious and have yet to refuse a meal.

I make sure they have water every day and spray the enclosure as well. They were just born saturday so I am wondering if it too early. Is there anything specific I should do to stimulate feeding. It seems as if they are afraid of the pinheads. Am I doing something wrong? I do have a calcium substitute, but on that note, is UVB lighting important? Thank you for replying and answering my questions. The little allies are just so cute and wonderful I want to do everything as best as possible. Thanks.

OH, then if they have just recently hatched, i think they might still have the yolk that they will feed on until a week or so later. I'm not totally sure though. I have loads of Southerns so maybe it's different? Mine eat like wild fire, i have 5 and they will all eat around 7 good sized small crickets a day if i let them.

Thanks for all the advice. The baby allies are doing great. I just put some crickets in tonight and they pounce on them almost instantly. How often should I feed these little guys. I try and make food available everyday. Is this enough. It is so much fun to watch their tails go crazy as they hunt.

Thank you

Bryan
