how do you all have such big

bicinctori? (is that the plural version?)
kaiser is really long but when he is not inflated he is really tiny. my regular collareds eat like 10-12 crickets per feeding and he eats like 3. i think he is young because he could have cared less when the girls were gravid and he did not care when he encountered walter, although walter about had a heart attack. he has been debugged, poops regularly and drinks lots of water. he also acts normal although he is a little skiddish
has anyone else noticed different eating patterns between these species? do you think i should be concerned?

my collareds never eat greens. they are not huge lizards or anything. ivan is the heaviest and the oldest. she is 42.5 grams. the last time walter was weighed he was 40 grams and milly was 38 but i am sure that their weights have gone up since that was last march when they were weighed. well maybe not milly's since she has laid some eggs but walter is a nice and stout lizard but not overly fat. they all just love to eat and they are active, climbing all over their cages. i think the love of food comes from the italian genes in my family

Hey there,

When I had my old guy, I noticed that; he was mostly tail, and a huge old head. Pretty small on the body side. It seems to me although I've seen exceptions, that Bicinctores stay a tad less robust than an average collaris..... It could also have something to do with locality. the Sovereign was probably only about 4 1/2" SVL, and about 10-12" TL and I had him for over six years. I caught him as an adult, so he may well have been 7-8 years old before his escape. As he grew older, not only did he become less acrobatic and spry as far as catching food went, and would often go many days before he would eat anything. Interestingly, this behavior change occured during his first year being exposed to a female....perhaps his priorities changed....heh.
My two females Leia and Rocket never refused a meal, and would go to great lengths to capture their quarry. I mean foot high jumps, barrel rolls, impressive stuff. I think there may be some sort of behavioral/anatomical difference between males and females as to their dietary/meatbolic needs, but have no scientific data to back this up. Its a roundabout way of saying it, but perhaps your Walter simply won't eat as much as your others....and that not necessarily being a bad thing. I don't know, but it would be interesting to find out. I hope I helped, and keep up the good work with your pals.

yours,
Phil Clevinger

C. bicinctores.

Specific or subspecific names cannot be plurarized such as in the case of english, where for example, octopus becomes octopi, and cactus becomes cacti. The one thing you DO have to watch out for is correct use of binomial nomenclature (which I'm sure you know, Vonnie). Maintain the first letter of the genus capitalized, the specific and subspecific names in lower case letters, and then underline them or write them in italic form and you're good to go!

Thank the sun for Linnaeus! =)

yeah, thank god i study history, spanish, poli sci and latin american studies because that is alot of rules and that is just to write lizard names. the most nitty gritty we get in the humanities is with citations

No creo que a las lagartijas de collar les importe como escribimos sus nombres. =)

*Sorry Eve, I couldn't help it.

well i can promise you that there were no bad word said on fabian's part and i can promise you that i did not intentionally swear and i am pretty sure i did not but i am a little rusty at recalling spanish as i have mostly been reading it lately and not writing or speaking it.
you should learn spanish eve, then you can monitor the spanish forums too and use it when you speak to your baja lizards!
