Texas road hunting

thodej Sep 09, 2004 12:52 AM

Can ne one help me out?

What licenses are needed for road hunting in Texas? Is it just a standard hunting license? Also, is there a limit on the amount you can collect at one time or for a year. I have heard you are suppose to keep a log and turn it into the state at the end of the year, is this really true and enforced. One last question is what about venomous, are there special permits to collect.

Sorry for all the questions,

Josh

Yes. I think I have a link to the regs at http://www.mcmartinville.com/chris/reptiles/trips/equip.htm

Technically, if you were born after 1973 or so you need to have proof of having taken a Hunter Education course, but Wal-Mart never asks, and I've never been asked when hunting (the intent of the course is to teach firearms safety--still a great course to take even if you don't plan on hunting).

See the regs.

Currently, I think that's for commercial collectors (who have to get a dealer's permit). I don't follow the commercial-type permits too much since they don't apply to me, so I may be off a little.

Nope. In fact, the limit for atrox without needing a dealer permit was actually raised from 10 to 25 (if I recall correctly) since TPW says they're not threatened (even after monitoring the various roundups etc for the past many years).
