Shedding Questions

tcjrvp Sep 09, 2004 01:19 PM

This is the first shedding cycle that I am experiencing and have some questions. Here is what has been happening. About 8 days ago, I noticed my yellows eyes started getting foggy (which I knew was part of the shedding process). He went in his hide box for almost 4 straight days and never came out at all. On the first day he went in I offered him food and he quickly accepted it. After about 4 days of being in the hide box he came out and went into his water dish, where he has been for three complete days now and has not come out at all. His eyes are completely fogged over now (actually they have been for about 4-5 days). I guess I am starting to wonder if there is anything wrong, or is this normal. How long does it take to begin shedding the skin?

Also, should I offer him food right now? I read somewhere that it can be dangerous for them to eat at this time because it can damage their new skin. Is this true, or should I feed him?

I am worried that this is taking too long and as a result there is something I have done wrong. Is it ok for him to be in his water dish for such a long time?

Help is appreciated.

I have a yellow in shed right now. THey take long just like greens..nothing is wrong with your snake. I have noticed and heard a lot about yellows being more apt to eat while in shed while greens will refuse for a long time up to the "blue" phase. Dont worry and make sure you have it warm and humid. I would not feed especially if you are feeding live.

it took Annie about 3 weeks to shed his first time i got him. his eye went blue then clear then blue then clean then after 4-5 days he shed. it now takes him about 2 weeks but he is in shed now and its going on to week 3. Annie well some times stay in his hide for a week strait only moveing to feed or he will stay in his water dish. i would not feed in shed most the time they will not eat and if offered food while in shed they will not take it even after they shed for some time.
