A renewed feeling

I rescued an adult male brown and yellow-banded California kingsnake a few weeks ago from a guy who had owned it for about 4 years (supposedly). I used to keep and breed colubrids, including Cal kings, years ago, but got out of it to expand with boids. Now with this guy I remember just why I got stared with them in the first place! Corns and kings are too often considered beginner snakes, but even a long-time guy like me can still appreciate the inquisitiveness of a good ol' kingsnake.

Just thought I'd share.
thanks.

Although Gopher Snakes are highly underrated, and the fastest & most efficient constrictors in my experience (I've owned many species of snakes, including 4 speices of Kingsnakes), few snakes match the activity & inquisitiveness of Kingsakes.

African House Snakes are marvels, and strike so quickly that you don't even see them strike, but they hide often, and stay small. I seldom saw them out exploring.

Last night my MBK explored all over his 60-gallon vivarium after feeding, eagerly looking for more. He spent over 30 minutes checking all around his enclosure making sure that he had not overlooked any prey. His head darted furtively as he searched.

No other species in my care has ever been that active.
