Hi, I have a russian tortoise and I want another. I can't decide between a redfoot or a leopard. Any suggestions?

Neither if you plan to keep them together.

Since I'm sure you'll be keeping them in separate enclosures, Redfoot environmental needs are totally the opposite of a Russian. FWIW, I have groups of both Russian's and Redfoot's. Redfoot's need a narrow temperature band of 70-90 degrees night and day and a 60-100% humidity range. Lepoards have a temperature band of 60-90 and humidity between 20-50%. Younger ones seem to handle higher humidity, but as they age they have more trouble (read: higher vet bills for you) when it gets above 50%.

Their diets are also very different from Russians. Redfoot's are 50% fruit, 40% greens, 10% protein (low fat cat food, Mazuri, etc). Leopards are 70% grasses, 20% weeds, and 10% cactus pads.

Whatever you choose, good luck, Just don't put them together with your Russian.......

Can you substantiate your percentages for the feeding ratios of these species?
I have been looking for just such a ratio on Redfoots and have had no success. I would like to know where you got your information.
Thank you,
Shari
