adult male and 2-month old female together?

Alex p Sep 09, 2004 08:08 PM

I put my 2 1/2 year old Rito in with 2-month old Zilla today. They seem to get along OK, they are both hanging out together in the same hidebox now. I guess I just need to know whether or not to expect any problems in the future with this arrangement. The size difference obviously worries me. Also, when zilla twitches her tail, Rito gets that look in his eye that he gets before he snags a mealworm; he also twiches his tail, which I haven't seen him do since he was a 6 month old stalking crickets. He has yet to actually bite her or otherwise try to hurt her, but again this is the first time I have tried anything like this, hopefully you guys can help me out.

You need to seperate them because the male will try to mate with the 2 month old or it will kill her seperate them right away.

Also depending on how small the female is, the male may not only try to mate with her, he may actually try to eat her (possibly being sucessful).

A long time ago someone came on here wondering what happend to their new baby gecko. All that was left was the babies tail and I would imagine a rather fat adult leopard gecko.

Definately separate them untill she is the same or at least close to the size of the male. I would wait untill she is at least a year. However, if your don't want baby leos keep them separated permanently. Geckos do not need or want companionship. Housing two geckos together can cause quite a bit of stress sometimes resulting in one being bullied.

Good luck with your geckos.
