Feeding

Malia Sep 09, 2004 09:31 PM

I was introduced to Mitch last December. At that time he was only about 2 1/2 feet. I have since become his sitter while my best friend is deployed with the military. I'm concerned that I'm over-feeding him. I have been caring for him for six months now. My instructions were to feed him three mid-large sized mice once a week. He is now 45" long and 5 3/4" circumference. Am I feeding him too much?

That sounds about right. Mice are really small compared to the rats that many ball pythons eat. Many times, larger sized ball pythons that feed on mice can eat 5-7 mice easily (many times even more). Also, if the snake is as big as you are saying, you can definitely get adult mice. You wouldn't happen to know the weight of the snake would you (in grams)?

I've been feeding him adult mice. If the ones at the store are mid sized or smaller I'll give him more, depending on their size. I have no idea how much he weighs... I'm still new to this whole thing. I've learned that he loves to spend lots of quality time just hanging out with me, like now.
