scratched scales

bigboss Sep 10, 2004 08:12 AM

I thought i knocked a rat out pretty good before feeding my burm but when he snatched it it got a second wind and ended up scratching the surface of his beautiful scales when it got coiled.

They're not deep scratches they just look like they got the top layer a little. i'm so pissed should i use neosporin like you would for a deep scratch or will they heal up with sheds.

If you are sure that it is just the scales that are scratched and not any actual tissue damage then I would not worry about it at all. In a shed or two it will be all better. Just ensure that you kill the rats next time. Rodents can cause immense damage not only physically but also mentally to your snake. Todd

I have 2 ball pythons I got together. They both have scars from rodents. One is real bad, the other is just a little. The one with really bad scars is hard to feed, I assume because he's afraid of his food.

Yeah the burm is shedding again already and there are no signs of the scratches.

I also have a ball python with a scar from a mouse a while ago. luckily it didn't damage his mental stability and he's still a sweetheart and has the strongest feeding response ever. He basiclly catches food in mid air and never so much as a hiss toward a person.

Thank god the scar is really small and only looks like a crooked scale. i hate it when those nice patterns get messed up. He's a trooper.

The one that is badly scarred looks like a fire victim. It looks as if that section never even sheds he's so tore up. Both of the are real mild tempered as well. I've never even heard them hiss.
