Earlier this year, we purchases two baby red tails from a local breeder. We have purchased other snakes from him, but none that he had bred. The first one we got when it was first born, just after it's first meal. He has been a strong eater, fast growth, great temperament, no sickness at all. The second one, we got a few months later (from the same clutch). He said that he was only feeding them what was absolutely necessary to keep their size down for christmas. (not good). But, we took her in anyway. She was a terrible eater. Constantly regurging. Had only kept a couple of meals in her. She died last weekend. Last week (on weds) my husband called me in the evening because the male was on his back. He is showing stargazing symptoms, but according the vet there are no sure health problems with him. The vet said that stargazing is a symptom of many possible causes, and not necessarily IBD. We have him out on the porch, quaranteened from the rest of our collection. Now, what I was wondering was if anyone has seens these neurological problems because of breeding practices? He was given treatment for possible internal parasites, but seems that there are no problems there. He has not been exposed to extreme temperatures or toxins either.
