(AAP): A Thai woman answering the call of nature in her toilet was bitten by a giant python that proceeded to swallow her hand, news reports said on Friday.
Sokjing Ingkasiri, 65, had to take a trip to her dark toilet in the wee hours of Thursday morning because she suffered from a stomach ache, the Khao Sot newspaper reported.
As Sokjing reached for a water dipper to clean herself Asian style, a giant python that was lurking in the darkness bit her hand and started to swallow it, trapping her in the toilet.
Sokjing's screams eventually awakened her family, who called police to help rescue their grandmother.
It took two hours for police and rescue workers to extract Sokjing's hand from the snake's mouth.
The snake was not killed.
Sokjing was admitted to a hospital in Nakorn Nayok, 90km north-east of Bangkok, with severe bites and bone damage to her left hand.
