Lighting Fixture questions.

runski Sep 10, 2004 01:13 PM

Hi all,

Got an easy one for you. Can a regular fluorescent fixture be used with a Repti Sun 5.0 UVB bulb? By regular fixture, I mean any fixture as long as the bulb fits. Or do I need to look for one with a specific wattage requirement?

Do those that also apply to the basking lamps (reflector domes)?

Is there any benefit to using the more expensive fixtures?

Thanks in advance,
Runski

I think you can use a regular fluorescent light fixture, say, from the Home Depot. But I make sure it is the correct wattage. Don't put in any higher wattage bulb than what the fixture is rated for. That would be a fire hazard.

Ahhh... common sense. It's great- isn't it?

Seriously- thank you. Good luck with your new Cham. Please take pictures and post them when you get him.

yup, the $10 home depot shop light fixture is fine. the only time you need to worry is if you are using a PowerSun Mercury Vapor Bulb, or similar, with a dome fixture - it must be a ceramic socket not plastic.
