"It's my snake, I trained it, so I'm going to eat it!" - Mad Max, The Road Warrior
First off, very pretty snakes! It should be a lot of fun to watch that pair grow up.
Secondly, baby bloods & short-tails seem to be hypersensitive to excess humidity, and keepers tend to overdo humidity with these snakes as it is. Keeping your pythons on such a constantly wet substrate could very easily cause their skin to get crinkly looking, and possibly stress the snake to the point of going off feed.
Just offering some perspective from experience, baby short-tails don't need to be kept so wet. If you're worried about humidity within your enclosure, creating a humid hide for your short-tails may be a more constructive solution. Just pack a nice, tight little hide box full of damp sphagnum. When working with damp sphagnum moss, think along the lines of the consistency of a well wrung-out washcloth - typically more moisture than that is overkill. Simply check the moss a couple times a week & spray it down if it starts to dry out.
Just my $.02...
