New Camera; New Pics - What do you think?

Rob Jenkins Jun 25, 2003 10:27 PM

I just got a Sony DSC-U20 tonight because it had a pricetag on it I couldn't refuse. If you're not familiar with it, it's one of the smallest 2mp digicams on the market right now and is about the size of a big pack of gum. It has no zoom and takes average pictures, but is 1/5th the size of my Nikon, so it'll be nice to be able to have a camera with me pretty much all the time. Here's a couple I took tonight. It's got a very powerful flash that washed out the pics a bit, so I adjusted the brightness and contrast more as they are in real life. What do you think?

Not as clear or as close as my Nikon, but can I really complain for $179?

Those cameras are awesome! we got one in at work(i work at best buy) and our manager did the same thing, he couldn't resist it after seeing it, and bought our one and only, so none of us got to play with it but him.

anyways, the sony cameras always have kickbutt quality.

It really is a cool camera. It's pictures are okay, but the size more than makes up for any lack of clarity. Like most digicams, it does great in outdoors daylight situations. Sensors have trouble picking up light inside, though. Luckily, the flash on this cam is very strong.

Very nice. Dont you just love small cameras that can fit anywhere and not be so bulky!

I really, really love the size of this one. I have had the Nikon 995 for a couple years now and always complain about it's size (never about the pics, though) and this one is perfect for those 'dang, I wish I had my camera' moments.

Really nice Geckos! They kind of look like 2 of mine.

Good deal on the camera too!

Jeanne,

They really do look like yours. I promise they're not; I didn't come over when you were out, take pics and leave. Weird. Good looking geckos there.

Thanks. Yeah, the angle really makes his head look BIIIIIGGG. Not really that way, though.

The pics are resized from 2mp, something like 1600x1200(not exactly), so are crisper than the full sized original. Digital cameras in general have trouble with lower light and you can sure tell with this one. It does fine in well lit situations, but you can tell it's limitations when it gets a little dark. Still, the idea is a pocket cam and this one does that beautifully.
