HELP! eggbound?

ignignokt Sep 10, 2004 02:57 PM

ive got a female veiled who is immense with eggs. she has had 4 clutches before with no problem this time i mated her with a different male and she ha gotten huge, you can actually see lumps from the eggs between her ribs and on her stomach. ive had her in her egg laying cage for about 5 days now she dug a couple shallow holes but nothing big. today i dug a hole for her bcause last time she laid a clutch she was having trouble so i dug half the hole for her. she climbed right back up to the top of the cage once i put her down next to it. is there anything i can do to help her are the eggs stuck in her or something?

Hi just leave her in with the sand. She will lay the eggs when she is ready.Make sure the sand is wet enough and just keep a eye on her. They do that some times when they get so big, They may dig a couple test holes, good idea helping her out with the hole. she will use it when she is ready to.If she is still eating than she is not ready. keep a eye on what she eats. some times they like to dig it gets them ready to lay, it wears them down and I think that helps them go in to labor.I have had them dig a hole a then wait till the next day and start all over again. good luck with her. I'm no expert but I don't think I would as casual about it as Scott202 (no offense Scott ). If she has laid 4 times you know her behaviour and if something seems "off" it very well may be. Do you have a good herp vet? Dystocia is a serious problem and would need assistance from a vet. Here is an article - hope this helps and that everything turns out OK.

hI LELE THANKS FOR THE INFO TO. I did not know that either. Every time you think you know something you learn something else. That was a really good article. I just thought she was just digging around like they do sometimes before they lay. But now that you mention it your right if she has laid three clutchs before with no problem. Then there is a really good chance that something is wrong. Thanks for the info. Scott.....seems like theres always something to learn on thes guys. I tell you I sit and read the web all day long, and I've had hand on for the past two years, and I always find something I dont know. I'm working on ambilobes now. and that is a full time job by its self.I had Chameleo19 post a couple pictures of my male ambilobe on the web-shots if you have the time check out my male and let me know what you think of him. Thanks scott....
