Ok I guess I should have just said Persian Rats, the Piebald are very neat, but I was looking for just general info on the Persian. I couldnt find much while looking around, and not many people seem to be working with them. Anybody know why?
Thanks!!
(and I keep meaning to post my baby Blues pictures but havent had a chance! I will soon!!)

I can't imagine that Persian Ratsnakes won't take over the pet snake world once they're bred in numbers enough to bring the price down. Hopefully the founder population in the state is sufficient enough to achieve this as not many new bloodlines come in.
I've never kept them but think they're great.
Sach Korrel and Charles Vogell work with them.

Yeah I cant find anyone who has them! I am assuming the price is insane, but dont know since the only place that has any (and they are Piebalds), doesnt have a price.
They are just beautiful. I did finally find some info on natural history and breeding which was nice.

I had a pair for a long time that I got from Stan Grumbeck at The Snake Room. I hatched out a clutch of about four babies that I tried to sell for $200/ea, but there was no market for them at the time, so I traded them to someone. I eventually got out of them. They were a little like miniature Aesculapian snakes. Stan was the original breeder of the piebald too.

What do you think the future looks like (market wise) for them? Were they difficult to breed?
Thanks (as always) Terry!

I think it's kinda bleak. If you keep them because you like the snake, are interested in the ecology, natural history, etc, that's fine. You'll still need to figure out how to get rid of a few babies that you almost have to give away. That's the normals, of course, the piebalds are probably a different story. They're a montane snake too, adapted to cool climates. You'd have to be able to brumate. The babies are hard to get started too.

I've only played around with one specimen but I thought it was the ideal snake pet. Small, calm, and nice looking.
It may be one of those species that becomes popular if they're ever readily available. But then again, maybe not.

Chris, I don't disagree with ya. They are small, calm, and nice looking. These are some of the reasons I got them to work with in the first place. I only have five Old World species, however, and Persians didn't fit in my top five. Also, I don't think they'll ever be mainstream..but kept only by Zamenis enthusiasts. Just my humble opinion
