molurus molurus legality...

Why do some companies only sell their m. molurus in their home state? Is there a certian legal issue that I am missing? I have a pure pair of "classic pimbura" that I planned on breeding next season, but it would just stink if I could only sell my babies in TN because the market is dead here. Thanks for any info that might get posted...

They are CITES 1 which means means they are endangered to the point of near extinction in the Wild and can't be traded internationally. In the US a lot of CITES 1 animals are regulated by federal law in the United States Endangered Species Act. Anything deemed endangered on that list (including python morulus morulus) can't be shipped across state lines. As far as I know Indian Pythons are still high on the list of endangered (as opposed to threatened) animals. It is considered a federal offense to move these animals over state lines.

buyer and seller both have CBW permits issued through the US Fish and Wildlife Dept. for that species.

Many states regulate large boids, check your local laws, many other people probably don't want to deal with shippers.

I think this could potentially hurt conservation efforts for certain species in the long run. I've got a gorgeous mature indian Female that I want to breed , but am holding off until I can get appropriate documentation and such , which has not been an easy task.
