moving/changing enclosure stress

maclen Sep 11, 2004 07:53 AM

i had 2 males in a cage together for about 6 months and they had no problems but i moved one of them anyways. they were both in a 20 gallon with no substrate. now i moved one into a 10 gallon with t-rex forest bed. the one that i moved hasn't been eating his roaches as i discovered this morning. the two sides of my room differ in temp by about 1 degree F. the side i moved the one onto is 1 hotter. i also noticed his staring at his neighbor tarantula very cautiously so i put a divider between the two of them. so my question is is it normal for your gecko to get stressed when making modifications in his cage setting and set up? thanks

Some of mine do, some don't. It depends on their personalities and how much you handled them when they were younger I think..I have one male, I can move him anywheres at any time and he really doesn't care all that much - He will eat while you are moving him, but when he was younger I handled him alot and fed him out of a different box. One of my females, will not eat for about 4 days and that is just after cleaning out the enclosure and moving stuff around. So I dunno what to tell you...just keep offering food every night and taking it out in the morning if it is not eatten. Eventually they will start to eat again.

.....also keep in mind that they were used to being in a 20gal. viv & now he/she/s in 1/2 of that, before with no substrate & now has some....that could have alot to do with it.
