light bulb wattage???

ilvk9s Sep 11, 2004 11:37 AM

I am preparing to get a whites tree frog and am currently setting up his 10 gallon home which will be upgraded to a 20 gallon in a couple months. I am planning to use a nocturnal red heating lamp but have no clue what wattage bulb to get. For right now what wattage should I get for my ten gallon? And do I need to up the wattage when he moves into his 20 gallon? I would greatly appreciate any advice.

To give you an idea. I keep a 10 gallon in a room in house with ac that drops temp to 65 at night.
A 60 watt bulb placed on one side of tank gives me temps of mid 70s on bottom of that tank which will ofcourse give you higher temps on top branches, etc.
The branches on other side of tank are cooler but this gives even in small 10 gallon good temp gradient when bulb placed on one side.
At average room temp a 40 watt bulb is fine.the branches under the bulb will be warmer which is what you want.
I mist nicely before turning the bulb on at night never any problems.
