As much as the different political viewpoints love delving into the deep dark past of each candidate, It is basicly irrelevent to what is going on now.

How about some posts here on what each candidate is planning to do with his term (if elected).

Let's see if anyone can plug thier man without trashing his opponent.

After all...After election day what matters is what we get-not what the loser stood for, or may have done wrong 30 years ago...I want to see what we are voting for (possitive responses please!)

What does your choice stand for...and how does he hope to accomplish this....That is what we are supposed to be making the choice about.

When I was 13, I campaigned (by handing out flyers) for Barry Goldwater. You are not too young to voice an opinion.

You defend Bush frequently here, so please tell us what you like about him.

AND (for all the rest of you) please don't trash the opinion here if you disagree...Just post what you like about your own candidate.

handing out flyers?? jeeze....you must have been dedicated.

What i like about Bush:
-Against abortion
-Supports international law
-Does not flip flop
-Went into Iraq
-Is for a a "fair" election (no ad's that aren't supported by the person running)
-Has a grandfather like charm (does not appear mean)
-Says words that people can understand (having speach problems can be a good thing)
-Makes me proud to be living in America
-Homeland Security
-Smart bombs
-Against genetic stem cell research
-War on Terror
-Is religous
-Is a "good" man (moraly)
-Respects John Kerry (not that John Kerry doesn't respect him, Bush just Shows it more)
-Has a positive attidude about things

the funny thing is i am more liberal than i am conservative.

Bush is not against stem cell research. I hear this so often in the news, and the way it is consistently misrepresented makes me want to scream! It's no wonder the public doesn't know the reality of this when the news misrepresents it so badly.

Bush is the first president/administration to fund stem cell research! (you won't hear that on any liberal news station!)

Bush is only against federal funding of embryonic stem cells that were created after this bill, in order to prevent embryos from being created for the purpose of killing them. Morally, a lot of people don't think that it is right to create life, just to kill it, so you can possibly help some other persons life. The life you create and kill isn't necessarily worth less than the life you save.

States can still fund any stem cell research if they want to, as can any businesses, drug companies, etc. And this can be done on newly created embryonic stem cells, but not at the publics expense.

I agree completely with him on this. If stem cell research is so likely to create cures for diseases, businesses will spend their money to do the research. If it is so unlikely to create cures that businesses won't spend their money, then taking peoples money in taxes to force this research is just wasting the money. (If it wasn't a waste, then businesses would be jumping all over it!)

that he was only against part of the stem cell research. I couldn't remember (or find for that matter) which part he was against.

` What each/any candidate is planning to do is to BE THE PREZ, the top dog.
` A person's got to have a HELL of a lot of gall, and uncontrolled ego, to want to be the President of the United States. Just look at em, back through history. What a bunch of self-satisfied, and self-serving, compromised individuals. And, it ain't just this country, either.
` It's hard to figure out what Bush really wants. The guy is so inarticulate, it would be funny, if he weren't in the position he is in. Wealth, power, and influence can not only get you out of a shooting war, it can get you elected ( not really ) president, whew.
` Kerry seems like he has been choreographing his dance to the presidency since before he went to Viet Nam. Sure, he is many magnitudes more intelligent than Bush. So is Clinton. Look what he did. Took all the easy ways around issues, and made an ASS of himself as well, and set us up for a elitist like Bush. We need a good liberal president, not the fake liberals like the Clintons, and Kerry.
` Our government is so tied up in knots by special interests, and corruption, no one is going to accomplish much of anything, domestically. If you want to make a splash, or get your backers richer, start shooting. We're still good for that, the toughest bully in the neighborhood. When we get pissed, everybody duck. We're sure as HELL going to get somebody. Especially, if they have lots of oil! We may sacrifice many of our own, but we sure will make an enormous, empty, but deadly gesture. It will go on that way, until we refuse to go kill and be killed when we're told to.
` Anyone who really wants to be president should be automatically disqualified. We should designate QUALIFIED candidates, then vote on them. Force them to be president for ONE term, then euthanize them humanely. This two-party system is rotten to the core.
` The closest we can come to a good politician today, is Mark Twain's definition. " An honest politician is one who when he's bought stays bought." And, there's DAMN few of those left.
` Did I take my medication, today????

obviously you didn't since you slammed both (lol). The request was for positive reasons for who you would vote for. I don't think you quite managed that (lol)...

` Re: your previous post.
` Back in 64, when I was 15, I too campaigned for Goldwater.
` It was sometimes embarrassing, because of his politics. Especially his stand on civil rights legislation. I told myself he wasn't against civil rights, but against the federal legislation controlling the states.
` I campaigned for him anyway because I respected him. I've had a damned hard time finding any other politician I could say that about. Well, Goldwater's honesty didn't help him at all. Since then, the Republicans have learned their lesson well. Now, they concentrate on manipulating the public with fear, and by smearing their adversaries. They pander to the special interests, the ignorant, and the crackpots, to get votes, and they field candidates who can be easily manipulated on the spur of the moment.
` You can easily see who they're aiming for when you hear speeches like Cheney's about being attacked if Kerry is elected. I was insulted, as an American, to hear that crap.
` I'll be very surprised if we are not attacked before the November elections. The Islamic terrorists made it work in Spain, they are very likely to try the same here.

` We have become feared, and ridiculed by the rest of the world, and all in just one presidential term.

` Old Barry must be spinning like a top.

Im voting for Kerry/Edwards because....no particular order here, just off the top of my head.

ENVIRONMENT- clean air acts and the like

STEM CELL RESEARCH- we have many incurable diseases this kind of research can help

RIGHT TO CHOOSE- doesnt matter how YOU feel, its not your choice.

GAY RIGHTS- whether you agree with this lifestyle or not, the fact is, it is another human being who deserves to be treated just like anyone else.

TAXES- I dont like them any more than the next guy but we are now faced with a record deficit. We have to pay for it somehow. Id like to see a lot of cutbacks in areas that are wasteful, like a 300 dollar hammer, or whatever they do. That big tax refund I got was equal to 25 dollars a month. I would gladly give that back to a worthy cause. He says he wiil keep the middle class tax cuts so we'll see.

JOHN EDWARDS- I live in NC and I really think he wants to help. I had a media law class a few years back and my professor was a lawyer who knew him. He spoke very highly of him and this was before he became a senator.

JOBS- Tax breaks for businesses that keep jobs in US

TERROR- I understand this is a real problem, but to think that anyone but Bush is going to deal with terrorists lightly is ridiculous. I firmly believe that Kerry will do just fine in that department.

IRAQ- We've got to do something different there. We hve become an occupying force and things are not getting better. Kerry will work with the UN to bring stability and peace. The more international help we have, the fewer number of US troops needed.

ENERGY- Kerry will look for new means of energy. We will obviously be dependent on oil for some time to come but we need to start now on other methods.

EDUCATION- Kerry will actually fund NCLB. Too many schools do not recieve the funding they need to ensure that kids will get the education they deserve.

HEALTH CARE- This has just gotten out of hand. Kerry will cut premiums and lower prescription drug costs. Drugs are cheaper in every other country and we make the drugs here. It should be cheaper here and let others pay for Research and Devlepment.

Well football has begun so I must end now. That was difficult not to trash the other side.

Bush!!!

First off, cutting taxes, and making these tax cuts permanent.

Many people believe that doing this causes a deficit, but in reality, the opposite is true. The vast majority of taxes are paid by the rich. The rich don't need to spend money on things when taxes are high (they can "afford" to wait things out), but lowering taxes encourages them to do so, and this increases both the economy in general, and income to the government. (Sorry, I can't not reference Kerry here. His plan to raise taxes only makes the rich dig into tax loopholes more, and wait things out for a better time to buy extravigant things/invest in businesses, etc.--all which hurt the economy and make the deficit grow even faster)

The way he has handled the war on terror. While some may criticize his decision based on WMDs, I cannot. He made a decision based on info that everyone in the world believed to be true. Just because everyone was wrong, doesn't mean his decision was flawed. For instance, if I asked you what 2 plus 4 was, and you said 6, would you be wrong? Nope. It's not your fault that I gave you the wrong info., and I really wanted to ask you what 6 plus 9 is! I can't fault his decision based on 20/20 hind sight. I have to judge it based on what was thought to be known at that time.

The way he went to the UN and got them to unanimously sign resolution 1441.

His absolutism about right and wrong/good and evil. (nothing I hate more than justifying horrific actions by others by saying it wasn't wrong in their eyes. Muslim fundamentalists shooting children in the back, for instance. That can not be called anything but evil/wrong, it cannot be justified.)

I don't like the way he has been spending money, but most economists agree that Kerry would be far worse, so Bush wins again.

My personal stance on this......Mickey Mouse is my candidate.

He has No party affiliation,

He represents a political (but patriotic) minority, evidenced by the many pro USA war films he did in the forties.

Has great family values....

You know he will listen...look at those ears!

While a write in...

He has no hidden agendas or secrets because his entire life is on print and film!

I think he can get in by "Squeaking By"....
