Im posting this message to clarify those individuals who think they know Florida laws regarding Alligator Snappers. I called about a dozen pet stores in the state asking about Alligator Snappers and everyone I talked to tells me they are illegal to own. Even an officer from the Fish and Wildlife Conservation (AKA FWC) told me that too, but about an hour later another officer who I spoken too previously told me the first officer was wrong and gave me the informatin to back it up. Here is the website which will give you all information on Florida laws and reptiles: http://www.floridaconservation.org/codebook/68a_25.pdf.
This is a pdf file so you need the proper program to open it. Look for 68A-25 and read it. I just wanted to share this b/c the laws in Florida regarding Alligator Snappers is the following: No person shall buy, sell, or possess for sale any alligator snapping turtle and you cannot own more than one. What does this mean? It means no one can sell these turtles commercially, but you can buy one from out of state. Also, you can only have one. Hope this information is somewhat helpful!!!
